We offer one-to-one bereavement counselling for adults navigating loss in all its forms.
Grief can affect every part of life. You don’t have to go through it alone.
This service may be helpful if you are:
Bereaved through the death of a loved one
Experiencing anticipatory grief
Living with complex or long-standing grief
Feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to cope
Struggling with anxiety, low mood, or changes following a loss
One-to-one counselling
Weekly sessions where possible
Support from trained volunteer counsellors
A safe, confidential, non-judgemental space
We’ll begin with an initial conversation to understand what’s been happening for you.
If counselling feels appropriate, you’ll usually be offered a block of six sessions with the same counsellor.
We work at your pace. There is no pressure to share everything at once.
Appointments are available Monday to Friday.
Sessions take place between 9:00am and 3:00pm, with the final appointment beginning at 2:00pm.
Each session lasts 50 minutes.
If counselling feels appropriate, you will usually be offered an initial block of 6 weekly sessions.
Sessions take place in person at: Liverpool Bereavement Service, 1st Floor, Granite Buildings, 6 Stanley Street, Liverpool, L1 6AF
If our daytime service does not fit with your availability, you may wish to explore private counselling options. You can find more information here: Private Counselling Service
Our service is supported by trained volunteer bereavement counsellors and trainee practitioners.
All counsellors:
Are DBS checked
Work within the BACP Ethical Framework
Receive specialist bereavement training
Undertake regular clinical supervision
We are committed to providing safe, ethical, and compassionate care.
Our community counselling is free to access.
We recommend a voluntary donation of £15 per session, if you feel able to contribute.
As an independent charity, we do not receive NHS or government funding. Donations help us to:
Cover room and safeguarding costs
Provide supervision and training
Sustain support for others currently waiting
All donations are entirely optional, and the level of care you receive will never be affected if you are unable to donate.
We aim to ensure our support is available to all who need it. As a charity, donations play an important role in helping us sustain our service. We may invite you to make a voluntary donation, which will be discussed with you during your initial assessment. However, all donations are entirely optional, and nobody will be denied support if they are unable to contribute.
To speak to someone about our service or to make a referral, please call us on 0151 236 3932. If you contact us outside of office hours, you can leave a message and we will aim to respond on the next working day. You can access the service by self-referral or through your GP. Once we receive your enquiry, our Counselling Manager will contact you to talk through your situation and whether this support feels like the right fit for your needs. If our daytime appointments do not fit with your availability, we understand this may not work for everyone. You are welcome to speak to us about other options that may be more suitable, including private counselling.
